Korea KC certification

2021-05-07

Introduction to KC certification:
KC (Korea Certification) certification, formerly known as EK certification, is South Korea’s electrical and electronic appliance safety certification system, that is, KC mark certification. It was established in 2009 by the Korea Institute of Technology and Standards (KATS) in accordance with the Electrical Appliances Safety Management Act (ELECTRIC APPLIANCES SAFETY CONTROL ACT) The mandatory safety certification system implemented on January 1.

In order to avoid repeated certification, EMC and Safety will be managed separately from July 1, 2012. For electrical and electronic products that apply for Korean certification, they must obtain KC certificates and KCCs for their safety and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements. Certificate (new MSIP). There are 2 KC-certified qualification certification agencies: Korea Testing Certification (KTC) and Korea Electrical Testing Institute (KTL). These two are not only KC's certification agencies, but also qualification testing laboratories.

In terms of safety standards, all products entering the Korean market need to comply with the Korean safety standard K standard (similar to the IEC standard). When using the IEC standard, it must meet the requirements of South Korea. The national differences can be found in the announcement in the IECEE CB system. In terms of EMC, the Korean EMI standard is similar to the CISPR standard, and the EMS standard is similar to the EN standard.

According to the requirements of the new "Electrical Appliances Safety Management Law", according to the different levels of product hazards, KC certification is divided into compulsory safety certification, self-disciplined safety certification and supplier self-confirmation. Among them, compulsory safety certification controls more dangerous products High, the supplier self-confirms that the product under control is less dangerous.

The product range of KC certification generally includes electrical products above AC50 volts to below 1000 volts:
1. Wires and cables (Cords, Cables and Cord set)
2. Switches for Electrical Appliances
3. Capacitors or filters as components for power supply unit
4. Electrical equipment parts and connection parts (Installation Accessories and Connection Devices)
5. Electrical protection components (Installation Protective Equipment)
6. Transformer (Safety Transformer and Similar Equipment)
7. Household and Similar Equipment Appliances
8. Motor Tools
9. Audio and video application equipment (Audio, Video and Similar Electronic Appliances)
10. Information Technology and Office Appliances (IT and Office Appliances)
11.Lighting machines (Lightings)
12. Connect the power adapter or the device used by the charger (Appliance with Power Supply or Charger)

Technical information to be submitted for KC certification
1. Relevant application form
2. Product label
3. Product manual 4. Parts list
5. List of derived models 6. Circuit diagram and Layout
7. Parts certificate 8. Specifications of transformers, inductors, etc.
9.CB certificate and report

KC certification application process

1. The customer prepares samples and documents and submits them to Waltek

2. Waltek submits samples and data to KTL/KTC for testing

3. KTL/KTC conducts safety test and issues KC test report after the test is completed

4. (If any) For safety certification, KTL/KTC needs to arrange factory inspections, and follow-up annual factory audits every year

5. KTL/KTC audit report and other application documents, KC certificate will be issued after there is no problem

The KC certification nameplate must include the following:

①KC mark (including certificate number SUxxxxxxxx)

②Product name (must be expressed in Korean)

③Model name

④Voltage frequency

⑤Factory name

⑥Country of manufacture

⑦Double insulation sign "back" (if required)

⑧Production year and month

⑨A/S after-sales service telephone (must be in Korea)

other information

Technical information: voltage frequency 110V/220V/380V, 60Hz or 50Hz/60Hz, plug KSC8305

Is it mandatory: mandatory

KC certification validity period:

1. Compulsory safety certification-----none, the annual review maintains the validity

2. Self-discipline and safety confirmation-5 years

3. Supplier self-confirmation-----No certificate, the confirmation is permanently valid

Factory inspection requirements: Compulsory safety certification requires the first factory inspection and annual inspection

Requirements for certificate holders: The mandatory safety certification must be a factory certificate, and the other two types of certification factories/manufacturers/importers can hold the certificate.
