ETL certification is the most dynamic safety certification mark in North America. Its history can be traced back to the electrical testing laboratory founded by Thomas Edison in 1896. It has a wide range of visibility and recognition in North America. ETL certification is for products to enter the United States and Canada. A certification required, UL certification is still the most authoritative certification in North America, ETL certification also has its advantages. Compared with UL certification, the cost of ETL certification will be much lower, including the time period will be much shorter.

2. ETL certification application cycle
Since the ETL issuing agencies are divided into: Shenzhen/Taiwan/Shanghai, general customers choose Shenzhen and Taiwan more.
1. The general test cycle is as follows:
The laboratory test cycle is 2 weeks (if the information is complete, and the test is qualified)
Shenzhen ITS issuance certificate requires sighting, and a draft is expected to be issued within one week after the sighting is qualified
Taiwan ITS issuance certificate, no sighting is required, the test is completed, the data is directly sorted out and the report is expected to be drafted by the engineer in 2-3 work days;
2. Draft confirmation + certificate issuance
Shenzhen ITS: 5-7 working days after confirming the draft issuance
Taiwan ITS: After the client confirms the report we have written, the agency will issue a final draft after the agency review, and the client confirms the final draft. If the agency does not give feedback, the certificate will be issued within 3-5 working days.
In addition, if the customer has not applied for ETL certification before, the first time to apply for ETL certification, you need to apply for an ETL control number first. New customer process: first apply for a control number-test-factory inspection-certificate issuance. In addition, new customers need to wait for the factory to pass the inspection before they can issue the certificate. Those who have previously applied for ETL certification can apply directly without applying for an ETL control number.
Three, ETL workflow
1. Submit the application form
2. Send samples to the laboratory,
3. Test samples in the laboratory
4. After the test, submit the data to the institution for a report
5. Factory inspection (factory inspection is required for the first application)
6. After passing, the institution will issue an ETL certificate
Four, ETL certification application materials
1. Nameplate
2. Instruction manual (requires serial number label and USB port label)
3. Circuit diagram and PCB layout diagram
4. Specifications of transformers and inductors
5. The six views of the product and the Mylar sheet specification diagram
6. CDF list, for example: specifications of transformers, inductors and screens
7. 4-5 power boards, 3 unpainted transformers
8. After confirming that the information is complete, the engineer will review the information.
9. After the information is confirmed, the test will be arranged.
10. During the test, the laboratory will provide the signed documents required by the institution, and the customer will submit it to the institution after the completion.
11. After the test is completed in the next 2 weeks, the certificate can be issued within about 2 weeks. (The premise is that the test is qualified)
Generally speaking, if the product enters the North American market, if the customer does not apply for UL certification by name, he can choose ETL certification, which is easier to operate. ETL is not only lower and shorter than UL in terms of the cost cycle, but the application process is relatively less stringent and it is relatively easy to obtain certification.
